Orochimaru was a rogue ninja from the Hidden Leaf Village and one of the legendary 3 Sannin. According to his former teammate Tsunade, Orochimaru had always been twisted, even as a child. His sadistic attitude was presumably due to the death of his parents, which led him to study fobidden jutsu and eventually becoming obsessed with learning all ninjutsu. Whilst still part of the Leaf Village, Orochimaru conducted numerous experiments to discover to new jutsu, using kidnapped villagers as guinea pigs. When this was discovered by his former master, the 3rd Hokage, Orochimaru defected and joined the Akatsuki organisation in the hopes of expanding his research.

Orochimaru maintained a youthful appearance through the use of a forbidden reincarnation jutsu in which he transferred his soul from one living body to another every three years. After a confrontation with Itachi Uchiha, in which he attempted to take Itachi’s body so that he could use his Sharingan, he was defeated and lost his left hand in the process. Orochimaru then left the Akatsuki to find a new body and eventually founded his the Hidden Sound Village where he was able to continue his experiments.
